In the Shape of a Woman
(1970-1986)

"My travel start with the female.
The contour of a woman delineates
my path, the groundwork of my researches. The female body as the first map, the first geographic data. Feminine, at the same time, local and universal.
The settings multiply and disintegrate in fragments of lived and felt experiences. The photographic camera is my tool of documentation. Silkscreen is my brush."

Josely Carvalho - Diary of Images, 2016

The artworks Waiting (1982) and The Birth (1981) were part of the group exhibition Radical Women: Latin American Art,
1960-1985
and are also part of Hammer's Museum collection.
